Born in the untamed wilds of the south coast in 1981, Robin McBrayne grew up dreaming of being an animator. They were the eldest of two siblings to a single parent family on a run-down council estate on the outskirts of Portsmouth.

They had a challenging childhood, and target of many a school bully, things were difficult at the best of time for Robin, but they plodded on with plans to study art.

Sadly a childhood of abuse in the home and in school caused Robin to fall behind their peers in the education system, and they left school with zero GCSE's.

Robin was fortunate to meet some sympathetic college officials who gave them the opportunity to study Art and design GCSE a second time, which they passed with a D.

Eventually Robin made it into a GNVQ in Art and Design, Foundation level, where tutors, encouraged by their natural comfort with the arts, gave Robin the support they needed to pass with Merit.

But, as things looked to finally be coming together for Robin, a string of family bereavements, culminating in the death of their mother, cut further education short. Robin, at the age of 18, took over guardianship of their younger sibling and over the next few years, through extended family pressure, and challenging personal relationships, had nearly all dreams of a life in art beaten out of them.

Jump forward to 2022. Robin has just finished an apprenticeship in their late 30's in housing management with the local social housing provider, after spending 15 years working a number of different retail roles.

They would end up joining a charity built to aid the homeless and at risk in the local area, working two years of challenging and tiring work doing so.

Eventually in 2024 after many years of stain and pressure, Robin suffered a mental breakdown, and after being out of work for a number of months, finally sought help and support for mental health challenges and a diagnosis for unconfirmed autism.

During this period, Robin find themselves picking up a pen again for the first time in a very long time, and through the practice of art, reclaimed a part of themselves long thought lost.

Through daily practice and the healing power of artistic creation, Robin has slowly rebuilt their confidence and personhood, finding their true voice through a range of mediums and styles.

Now, Robin has earned the playful moniker of "the printer" in the twitch art community for sketching large and expressive portraits in a speedy fashion.

Robin works primarily with Marker and fine liners, but also plays with acrylics and watercolour.
